War Child Canada Statement on the Escalation of Violence in Sudan

We are deeply saddened by this weekend’s renewal of violence in Sudan and have been closely monitoring the unfolding situation there, particularly in the regions of West Darfur where our programs are situated.   We have been in close contact with our team on the ground in Sudan, who are fortunately all safe. Our thoughts are with the people of Sudan, and we remain hopeful that there will be a swift resolution to the conflict.

Nearly 16 million people in Sudan already require humanitarian assistance – the highest in a decade. The majority of people in need are women and children, and over half are children.  3.7 million people have been displaced from their homes.

War Child Canada has been working in Sudan since 2005 and we remain committed to continuing our efforts on behalf of extremely vulnerable children and their families.
