Appleby’s War Child Youth Initiative Club has been supporting the organization for a decade. Their hard work has secured a spot as one of War Child’s top school supporters!
The Club hosts various fundraisers such as car washes and bake sales through the year. These events are fun to put on, get the school community involved and raise a lot of funds. To top off their fundraising activities the club hosts an annual Keep the Beat dance and concert showcasing local musical groups and talent from the school.
Ellen Palmer supervises the War Child Club at Appleby. She shared her thoughts on why War Child became the club’s charity of choice, “Appleby College started its first War Child Club over 10 years ago, and War Child has always been close to our hearts. War Child demonstrates so much integrity, vision, and long-term commitment to their goals that we really feel that our donations could not go to better use. Throughout the years War Child has been a great support to our student War Child Youth Initiative club, and as such our students have had a very enriching experience in the club, learning so much more about the bigger world picture of the issues with which we are engaged.”
Having the long term support of schools such as Appleby makes a big difference in War Child’s programs by helping to create on-going change in the lives of children affected by war. The War Child Youth Initiative Club are an outstanding example of how anyone can create a legacy at their own school.
